Matt Gonzalez
Catching, Hitting & Fielding Instructor
Matt is originally from Manhattan, New York. He attended Grand Street Campus High School before transferring to one of the nation’s top baseball academies, P27 Academy in Lexington, South Carolina, to finish his high school career. During that time, Matt was ranked the No. 2 catcher and the No. 23 overall player in the state of New York by Perfect Game.
Following his success at P27, Matt continued his baseball career at the Division I level with Florida International University, where he was ranked the No. 30 top incoming freshman in Conference USA. In his sophomore year, he played for Northwest Florida State College, one of the top junior college baseball programs in the country. There, he helped lead the team to a regular season conference championship and a Panhandle Conference Tournament championship appearance.
Matt went on to play his junior year at Ball State University, where he helped lead the Cardinals to a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament Championship and earned All-MAC Tournament Team honors.
For his senior season, Matt joined the University of New Orleans, where he made an immediate impact as the team’s leadoff hitter. He posted an impressive .336 batting average and helped lead the Privateers to the Southland Conference Championship Series. Matt earned multiple conference and national honors, including Southland Conference Hitter of the Week (after going 10-for-16 with three home runs and two grand slams), Southland Conference All-Tournament Team, NCAA Lineup of the Week (Week 5) as catcher, and Southland Conference Second Team All-Academic.
As a player, Matt took pride in developing quality at-bats and being a tough out. Over his collegiate career, he posted a .307 batting average and maintained an exceptional 11% strikeout rate—demonstrating his consistent, disciplined approach at the plate and ability to compete every pitch.
Off the field, Matt also excelled as a student-athlete. He was named Third Team All-NJCAA All-Academic at Northwest Florida State College and earned Dean’s List honors at both Ball State University and the University of New Orleans. Matt graduated with honors from the University of New Orleans, earning his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. His consistent academic success reflects his strong work ethic, discipline, and dedication both in the classroom and on the field.

Gerry Gonzalez
Pitching, Hitting & Fielding Instructor
Gerry’s coaching journey is built on a foundation of diverse playing and coaching experiences across collegiate, travel, high school, and international baseball. He began his career on the mound, pitching at two respected JUCO programs—Louisiana State University–Eunice and North Iowa Area Community College. At LSUE, he competed at one of the top JUCO programs in the nation and was part of a team that advanced to the NJCAA National Championship Game. He also gained international playing experience in the U.S. Virgin Islands, facing professional and high-level amateur competition.
After his playing career, Gerry transitioned into coaching with the same passion and competitiveness he brought to the field. He has coached within two nationally recognized travel baseball organizations—Team Beast Baseball and 5 Star National Baseball—working with elite athletes on the national circuit and helping players earn opportunities at the Division I, JUCO, and professional levels.
His coaching path also includes time at SUNY Maritime College, where he contributed to NCAA-level player development, practice planning, and game preparation. Internationally, he returned to the U.S. Virgin Islands program as a coach, leading pitching development and mentoring athletes competing on the global stage. At the high school level, he has focused on building strong fundamentals, competitiveness, and college readiness in young players. He will also be serving as an assistant softball coach at DSHA in the upcoming year, where he looks forward to contributing to the program’s future success.
Across every level, Gerry is committed to developing complete athletes—physically, mentally, and competitively. His goal is always the same: help players grow, prepare them for the next level, and give them every opportunity to succeed in the game.
